An Exciting Time of Year

So this is my first year where I will continue to be working in a church both through the summer and the fall.
Alot of exciting things are happening at City Reformed.

We had a great turn out our first sunday back with students. The total attendance was somewhere around 150, which I think makes it [...]

Pittsburgh Street Car?

I just saw a video about the streetcar project in Cincinnati, they hope to be open in 2009, Imagine if there were a few strategic street cars put in Pittsburgh, it would be great. Here is a link to the video. If you think its a good idea pass it on.

I Love Lawrenceville

Man do I love Lawrenceville. Bohemian, meets yinzer, meets Somalia.
Im sitting in Crazy Mocha, one local walks in and a few others notice, and greet him. Young Urban Professionals quietly read their Post-Gazette,while young college girls chat away by the front window. One guy walks in, he has tribal sleeves, gaged ears that look [...]

Our Very Religious Founding Fathers

In my research for my paper on the history of the PCA and their church planting I came across a figure in a paper called “Why Plant Churches” written by Tim Keller.
He points out that in 1776 only 17% of the population of the USA were “‘religious adherents’”.
I find this very intriguing, [...]

Chicago, Baltimore, and NYC: Visit Pittsburgh

Pop City Media, one of my weekly reads about Pittsburgh, has recently put up an article featuring the fact that the NY Times, the Chicago Sun-Times, and the Balitmore Sun, all have recently featured articles about the benefits of Pittsburgh.
Here is one quote from the Baltimore Sun:
“Pittsburgh struggled during its painful transition from manufacturing town [...]

10 Books Every Wanna Be Pastor Needs to Read

In looking back on the long(tongue-in-cheek) time I have spent as a seminary student, I realize that there are a number of books that I wish I had been encouraged to read while at seminary, a few of these books were given as class texts, but most of them were simply recommendations from wiser men. [...]

There is the line and there is you crossing it. A SecondLife Church?

If you are like me you have a number of sites that you hope around to every once in a while. Being someone who was a visual communications major in college I see what the guys over at churchmarketingsucks (CMS) has to say. Most of the time I just get annoyed by the fact that [...]

One Heck of Week

Man last week was crazy.
Wednesday I had Jury duty, and for those of you who have never been, it kind of feels like wait in an airport for a standby flight, but you dont want to get a seat on the plane, and at the end of the day you take the bus home.
Thursday and [...]

Are “Movements” Wrong?

In recent talks with local church leaders and pastors, I have heard alot of talk about people who are empire building. They are hesitant to embrace what groups Harbor, and Redeemer and Mars Hill, are doing. These local people that I’ve talked to are hesitant to be seen or to move towards creating any “movement”.
Of [...]

Marshill Sets Plans for Expansion, But is that Good?

While listening to this week’s vodcast from Marshill Church, I was presented with their new plans for expansion. New sites, new services, and more reorganization.
While he was speaking about their plans to add more services, and locations, Mark Driscoll said out loud what many people looking at a church of 6,000 who are hoping to [...]
